Perspective is the bane of my existence xD I needed so much time to pull that lightsaber off... yeah the crop is a problem as well. As you can see, I'm shit at backgrounds and also I didn't even plan for a bg, just decided that on a whim... this whole thing is purely out of my comfort zone, like every single aspect of it. Next time i have an idea of this proportions, I'll try to plan it better. I kinda had the idea to make it seem like they have to go to the left, that's why I pushed it to right and added the bg as it is. The movie-like black bars didn't add much to it, but I felt it looked better with it. If you want to elaborate, or have any more pointers, shoot me a message!
